CANADIAN LISTINGS

Solar Thermal Listings to Canadian Standards

ICC-SRCC provides listings to CSA Standards for solar thermal collectors and domestic solar water heating systems. The listings assess compliance to the CAN/CSA F378 Solar Collectors and CAN/CSA F379 Packaged Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems, which are referenced in the National Building Code of Canada.  Certification is provided in conjunction with the SCC-accredited ICC-ES PMG Program.

Listees may display both the ICC-SRCC Listed Mark and the ICC-ES cPMG mark. These marks are used to show that the product has been certified to meet both US and Canadian requirements.

  • CAN/CSA F378, Solar Collectors
  • CAN/CSA F379, Packaged Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems

The National Building Code of Canada references the CAN/CSA F379 standard for packaged domestic solar water heating systems.  In turn, the standard requires that all solar thermal collectors used in these systems comply with CAN/CSA F378 . However, CAN/CSA F378 was formally withdrawn by CSA in 2021. SRCC continues to offer F378 listings while the reference in F379 remains.

CSA F378 has many similarities to the ICC 901/SRCC 100 standard that serves as the basis of the ICC-SRCC OG-100 program for solar thermal collectors.  Because of the similarity, many test reports conducted for OG-100 certification can also be used for CSA F378 listings.

The CSA F379 standard is similar to the ICC 900/SRCC 300 standard that is used as the basis of the ICC-SRCC OG-300 certification. However a key difference is that CSA F379 requires performance testing of all solar thermal system assemblies. For those manufacturers seeking a lower cost solution, SRCC offers performance ratings based on computer simulations of the CSA F379 tests. These validated models have been developed in conjunction with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and provide the data needed for home energy simulation tools programs like HOT2000.
